I was not one of these parents. I was completely confident in my ability to teach reading. But guess what? Teaching my child to read has been one of the most difficult things I&#8217;ve ever tried to do. I think my child is\/was a particularly difficult case. Chances are that your child will be much easier to teach!<\/p>\n<p>Since we&#8217;ve had such a struggle, I&#8217;ve become very familiar with many different programs and resources. We used five different phonics programs. We worked on reading every day. We had fights about it every day. Then I finally got smart and asked a veteran first grade teacher for help. And do you know what she told me I was missing? FUN.<\/p>\n<p>Ugh. Guilty. So guilty. Our reading lessons were not fun. So I put away all of my curricula and we focused on fun.
